Where Did All the Scientists Go?
Growing up in the 50’s & 60’s was a marvelous
experience. There seemed to be a limitless horizon to
life. Great discoveries were constantly being made, the
transistor (i.e., solid-state electronics), lasers,
nuclear science, satellites, space exploration, organ
transplants & artificial organs, and the list goes on.
Seemed like a break-thru a week. At the heart of all
this was the scientist. They stood on the top of the
heap known as humanity, super smart, impeccable
integrity, someone you aspired to be.
Somewhere after Apollo XI it all changed. Slowly,
instead of seeking truth, scientist began to seek
popularity and consensus. I don’t think existing
scientists changed much, but that new crop, it was pale
imitation. Suddenly it was all about public good not
public truth. What you say is the problem with public
good? Good is subjective, it is different things to do
people. The truth; well the truth is the truth; it is
not subject to whimsical interpretation (despite what
lawyer types may believe).
What
caused this shift? Greed and vanity. The desire to
rich and popular. We slowly moved away from a privately
run scientific community, to a publically run one. In
short, funding shifted to the government, most of it
routed through the academic world. Scientists slowly
became highly paid government whores. Scientific
advancement left the world of type three’s and fell
under control of the type ones (see
The Three Types of
People). The types one’s quickly realized
“science’s” value for controlling the type two’s.
Basically science became a tool of politicians to gain
control. A way to rationalize the growth of, and span
of control of the government.
So
whenever the government (as run by type one’s) wishes to
expand its control over another facet of your life,
there is a scientist standing there to give them the
justification to do it.
Where have all the scientists gone, long time
passing?
Where have all the scientist gone, long time ago?
Where have all the scientist gone?
Gone to whorehouses, every one
When will we ever learn, when will we ever learn?
