A
Lesson from Eliot
Today the headlines and commentary will be filled with
the story of Eliot Spitzer. No doubt the irony
of the self-righteous crusader falling, will make
for a great story. The arrogant egotistical SOB
ensnared doing the very things he destroyed others
over. Ensnared by the very tactics and methods he
employed. The sorrow and pity that is to be felt for
his wife and children with this most public of foibles
being disclosed. The arrogance, the abusive of power,
and the irony of pride. It would make a great movie,
but Hollywood would not do such a movie about a
Democrat.
When
I look at the case superficially, I see the typical
Type One,
arrogant, egotistical, abusive, all wrapped in a
religious like fervor. That belief that he is superior
to us, and that he must lead we the huddled masses, to
his light.
There is however a more sinister and insidious
side to this affair (no pun intended).
According to
ABC News, this was brought about because
Spitzer's bank alerted the Feds to
transaction activity in his accounts that they thought
were suspicious. We are not talking international
terrorism here, we’re not even talking domestic
terrorism, we’re talking about hookers. Think about the
uproar over warrantless wiretapping of
international communications, something at least in an
area that at this time in history could represent a
threat to us all. How about warrantless data
mining of all your financial activities, by
private organizations in cooperation with the Federal
Government, so they can catch you with hookers or
whatever else they may find. Shades of 1984;
it’s here, now. Worried about your civil rights,
your right to privacy; you don’t have any.
This should scare the crap out of all of us. I guess it
takes a lot to worry the herd as it marches to the
slaughter house. Want to know why I’m not optimistic
over the long-term prospects for a truly free United
States; well this is one of far to many reasons.
As a
quick aside, Eliot Spitzer is a despicable evil
person. Even though we don’t know the finally
outcome, it couldn’t have happen to a better guy. I am
not one of those who believe that being a “public
servant” should buy you “Good Works” (as I
believe it was called). I feel sorrow for his children,
but his wife is another matter. She is an Ivy League
graduated attorney (where have we seen this
scenario before?). She knew full well who and what
she married and probably what he was doing. She wanted
the power and wealth that he brought to their table, and
who and how many were destroyed was of no concern to
her. Women like her (at that one running for
President) condone what is going on and then hide
behind their children when it all comes tumbling down.
They are despicable in their own right.
