The Internet and Freedom

I was reading an article today, the gist of which was the amazing, and seemingly insatiable growth in Internet bandwidth. It included the usual doomsday scenarios, the life blood of the drive-by media, like the Internet will run into capacity problems by 2011. It did however raise counterpoints by some experts saying this will not occur.

I am not about to enter the fray over whether or not the Internet is running out of capacity. I will point out that these predictions have been made in the past and have not come true. Technological advances are cited as the reason we have not had a disaster yet. But I think that deep down there is a more potent force at work here. Read more

A Race for the Ages

The Presidential Election of 2008 may go down a seminal moment in the history of politics, well, at least the Democratic nomination process. The race as come down to two candidates, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama. Now I’m using all three of their names to make a point. Throughout their political careers these two have both gone with using or hiding their middle names bases on what they perceived to be best from a political perspective. Barack has even now gone so far as to say it’s racism to use his middle name in the presidential campaign, guess it’s a little different than when he was trying to get elected in the inner city. But I digress.

The bitter and rancorous split that has erupted in the Democratic nominating process is outstanding in terms of irony, perhaps one of the greatest examples of ones chickens coming home to roost in history. For most of the last 60 years liberals, personified by the Democratic Party, have been molding the United States to be a nation of appearances not substance. Bills and programs to eliminate poverty, not the elimination of poverty. Bills and programs to eliminate discrimination, not the elimination of discrimination. The promotion of pretty people, easy on the eyes; or silver-tongued ones, who read a teleprompter oh so well. An education system, that teaches how to get in touch with ones feelings, but not how to add or subtract; to use a condemn, but not how to use a ruler; that teaches that hate is bad, but the founding fathers should be despised. Appearance over substance. Read more

A Lesson from Eliot

Today the headlines and commentary will be filled with the story of Eliot Spitzer. No doubt the irony of the self-righteous crusader falling, will make for a great story. The arrogant egotistical SOB ensnared doing the very things he destroyed others over. Ensnared by the very tactics and methods he employed. The sorrow and pity that is to be felt for his wife and children with this most public of foibles being disclosed. The arrogance, the abusive of power, and the irony of pride. It would make a great movie, but Hollywood would not do such a movie about a Democrat.

When I look at the case superficially, I see the typical  Type One, arrogant, egotistical, abusive, all wrapped in a religious like fervor. That belief that he is superior to us, and that he must lead we the huddled masses, to his light.

There is however a more sinister and insidious side to this affair (no pun intended). Read more

Failures of Our Fathers - Part I

The Constitution of the United States is the central document of our nation, and one of the most important documents ever written by man. It lays out principles and basic operations of our nation and the government. It has served as a model for many nations around the globe. It has endured for over two centuries.

I will now most humbly attempt to take a look at where the United States is today vis-à-vis The Constitution, and point out some areas where The Constitution was lacking or unclear that have over the course of two centuries taken us off the path the Founding Fathers designed.

This will be a continuing series of essays, each covering one topic. This is the first. Read more

The Vaporware Economy

Posted on March 9, 2008

Vaporware is one of my all time favorite terms. Back in the old days when I was in the information technology world, we used it to refer to manufacturer’s products that existed in word or paper, but not physically.

For a long time I have listened to the intelligencia explain how America was transitioning to from a manufacturing/production economy, to a services economy, and now on to an information/financial economy. Going from the dirty environmentally unfriendly world of making things to the higher level, pristine, green world of knowing about things and having money. We have been told that any nation can make things, that indeed many if not most are better (cheaper, higher quality, etc.) at it than America. That America’s new economic horizon is the information we create, posses and know how to utilize. Information is king, that the possession of, and ability to make use of information, is our value and our future. This concept permeates many facets of our nation. The herds require buzz words & buzz thoughts to guide them as onward they march. The business world, with its vast legions of management, that knows nothing about the company’s products, march in endless legions of consultants to tell them what to do next. Hell even our military buys into it, the thought of push button, satellite guided, robotic warfare, keeping or troops out of harms way is virtually irresistible. Read more

Our Two Political Parties

Posted on March 5, 2008
Filed Under Politics, Terrorism | Leave a Comment

There are really just two political parties now: patriots and traitors.

The way I see it, feeling strongly about winning the war on terrorism is a very good thing. To my way of thinking, it is the most important conflict our country has been in since WWII and not wining could literally cost millions of American lives.

While this may seem a bit extreme, I sometimes think in terms of black and white – particularly in terms of life and death issues, because in the end you are either alive or dead. There are really just two political parties now: patriots and traitors. I see active opposition to this war as treason, and nothing less. Those who seek to obstruct all just and necessary efforts for the defense of the nation are, thereby, giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

My friends, I do recognize that some folks have a basic right to dissent. That is after all, a natural right, which is retained by every single human being. In my opinion, there exists no right, however, to attempt to incite others to join you in undermining the efforts of a nation at war. And that is were we are today, like it or not. That my friends is what the left wing is doing, it is not dissent: it is sedition. Let me be very clear on this point - there is no right to speak out in support of an enemy of this nation. That is not dissent but rather, it is treason. Read more

The High Price of Gas

Posted on March 2, 2008
Filed Under Government, Politics | Leave a Comment

I was reviewing the historical price of gas (for the last 60 years), and found an interesting fact. When you adjust the price of gas for inflation the cost of a gallon of gas has stayed relatively constant for the past 60 years.

A couple of things are obvious. Gas prices have over time changed very little. Upward spikes have generally been sharp, precipitated by some external event (i.e., The Great Depression, First Oil Embargo, Second Oil Embargo, etc.), and price declines have been gradual and of long duration between the spikes. This would tend to indicate that gas prices have little to do with Big Oil’s wishes, and a lot to do with global politics and world economic conditions. The last few years however have seen a steady and seemingly unending increase in the price of gas. I would submit that there have been two underlying causes. Read more

What Really is an Islamofascist?

Posted on February 29, 2008

More than ever it seems the liberals continue to be in a thither over the use of the term Islamofascist. On multiple occasions, President Bush has stated that this country is at war with Islamic Fascists. The storm with the liberal left wakos has since raged ever since.

To compound the problems our President must deal with, The Council on American-Islamic Relations issued a letter to the President complaining that the President “contributes to a rising level of hostility to Islam and the American-Muslim community.” Further “The use of ill-defined hot-button terms such as ‘Islamic fascists’ harms our nation’s image and interests worldwide.” Give me a break.

It gets even better. The American people have seen Congressmen Charles Rangel go ape shit in front of Chris Matthews with his pearls of wisdom “You take Islamic and you call them fascists, you call them radical. You never called Hitler a Christian fascist. This is insulting to an entire religion.” He then continued to dig himself a hole with “We got Christian killers, we got Jewish killers, and we never identify them by religion. What you’re doing is demonizing.”

How about let’s put these jack asses to task with some simple definitions. Read more

Getting the Money Out of Politics

Posted on February 28, 2008
Filed Under Government, Politics | Leave a Comment

It is the battle cry of the Populists; get the money out of politics. It corrupts the system, giving undeserved power to big corporations & wealthy individuals. Reform campaign financing. Why indeed one of Presidential candidates has built a cornerstone of his candidacy on attempting to do that. People everywhere decry the corrupting influence of money on our political system. How do we get the money out of politics; the question echoes across the land.

I submit to you, as so many things are in our herd-like mentally society, is the wrong question. The real question is how do we get the politicians out of the money? Subtly, yet with dramatic seminal moments, the politicians have embedded themselves so deeply in our economic system that they now exercise a degree of control over our economic activity that curdles the blood of the Founding Fathers. Where Did All the Scientists Go?

Posted on February 22, 2008
Filed Under Government, Politics, Science | Leave a Comment

Growing up in the 50’s & 60’s was a marvelous experience. There seemed to be a limitless horizon to life. Great discoveries were constantly being made, the transistor (i.e., solid-state electronics), lasers, nuclear science, satellites, space exploration, organ transplants & artificial organs, and the list goes on. Seemed like a break-thru a week. At the heart of all this was the scientist. They stood on the top of the heap known as humanity, super smart, impeccable integrity, someone you aspired to be.

Somewhere after Apollo XI it all changed. Slowly, instead of seeking truth, scientist began to seek popularity and consensus. I don’t think existing scientists changed much, but that new crop, it was pale imitation. Suddenly it was all about public good not public truth. What you say is the problem with public good? Good is subjective, it is different things to do people. The truth; well the truth is the truth; it is not subject to whimsical interpretation (despite what lawyer types may believe). Read more

Immigration Policy…Problem Solved

Posted on February 22, 2008
Filed Under Immigration, Politics | Leave a Comment

Wake up and smell the coffee my friends, contrary to not so popular belief, the United States does not really have an immigration problem, generally speaking.

The United States does however, have an immigration problem with one specific country, namely Mexico. Have you ever noticed that there is no immigration problem with the rest of the world? My explanation and rationale for this position is rather simple. The rest of the world is “playing by the rules”. For some strange reason, Mexico and it’s citizens feel that it is their “right” to ignore the immigration laws of the United States. And believe you me they totally and completely do ignore them. My friends, if the rest of the countries of the world and their citizens ignored the United States immigration laws the way Mexico and it’s citizens do, it would be utter chaos in this country. That said, it is my view that it is approaching chaos right now with nearly 11 million primarily Mexican illegal aliens “demanding” that they be “allowed” to work in this country, primarily because they will supposedly do jobs that no one else will do. Please spare me, can’t they dream up a better excuse than that old tired line? Read more
